A DIFFERENT KIND OF MASSAGE
What Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Your lymphatic system helps move fluid throughout the body. Unlike your circulatory system, it doesn't have a heart continuously pumping that fluid. Everyday movement, breathing, and muscle activity all help keep lymph moving.
Manual lymphatic drainage, often called MLD, uses slow, gentle, repetitive movements to encourage the natural movement of lymphatic fluid.
The pressure is intentionally light. Because many lymphatic vessels sit close to the surface of the skin, this treatment feels very different from Swedish or deep tissue massage.
WHY LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE?
Gentle Bodywork With a Purpose
Some clients love lymphatic drainage simply because of how relaxing it feels. Others seek it out when they're feeling puffy, sluggish, or want a gentler alternative to traditional massage.
Light + Gentle
Uses very light pressure rather than deep manipulation of muscles and soft tissue.
Lymphatic Flow
Specialized rhythmic movements are used to support the body's natural movement of lymphatic fluid.
Puffiness + Fluid Retention
A popular wellness treatment for clients experiencing temporary feelings of puffiness or fluid retention.
Deep Relaxation
The slow, repetitive nature of the treatment makes it an especially calming massage experience.
After Travel
Often incorporated into wellness routines following long periods of sitting, travel, or inactivity.
An Alternative to Deep Pressure
A great option for clients looking for bodywork without the deeper pressure of traditional massage.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What Does Lymphatic Drainage Feel Like?
Lighter than most people expect.
Your massage therapist uses gentle, rhythmic movements across specific areas of the body. Because the goal isn't to work deeply into muscle tissue, more pressure doesn't make lymphatic drainage more effective.
Many clients find the slow, repetitive movements deeply relaxing.
If your main goal is working on knots, tight muscles, or deeper muscular tension, Swedish or deep tissue massage may be a better fit. If you're looking for gentle, specialized bodywork, lymphatic drainage offers something completely different.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage FAQs
Answers to some of the most common questions about manual lymphatic drainage.
What is manual lymphatic drainage?
Manual lymphatic drainage, or MLD, is a specialized massage technique using gentle, rhythmic movements intended to encourage the natural movement of lymphatic fluid throughout the body.
Is lymphatic drainage massage painful?
No. Lymphatic drainage should be very gentle. The technique uses significantly less pressure than Swedish or deep tissue massage.
Is lymphatic drainage the same as a regular massage?
No. Traditional massage generally focuses more on muscles and soft tissue. Manual lymphatic drainage uses much lighter pressure and specialized movements associated with the lymphatic system.
Can lymphatic drainage help with bloating or puffiness?
Some clients seek lymphatic drainage when experiencing temporary puffiness or feelings of fluid retention. Results vary, and massage should not be used to diagnose or treat persistent or unexplained swelling.
Is lymphatic drainage massage good after flying or traveling?
Long periods of sitting and inactivity are one reason some people incorporate lymphatic drainage into their wellness routine after travel. Significant, unexplained, or one-sided swelling after travel should be evaluated by a medical professional rather than treated with massage.
Can I get lymphatic drainage massage after surgery?
If you've recently had surgery or another medical procedure, please contact us before booking. Depending on your procedure and recovery, clearance from your medical provider may be required before receiving massage.
How often should you get lymphatic drainage massage?
There isn't one schedule that's right for everyone. Some clients book an occasional session while others incorporate lymphatic drainage into a regular wellness routine. Your massage therapist can discuss frequency based on your individual goals.
Who should not get lymphatic drainage massage?
Lymphatic drainage isn't appropriate for everyone. Certain cardiovascular conditions, active infections, blood clots, and other medical conditions may make massage inappropriate or require medical clearance. Please tell us about relevant medical conditions, recent procedures, or unexplained swelling before your appointment.
