A Note on Recent NYS Medspa Messaging

What NYS Medspa messaging means for Young & Bloom Skin

New York State has increased public messaging around unlawful medspa practices. We want to clarify who we are, how we’re licensed, and what clients can expect at Young & Bloom.

Over the past several weeks, New York State has increased public messaging around unlawful medspa practices, particularly those offering medical aesthetic services such as injectables without proper medical oversight.

We want to take a moment to clarify who we are, how we’re licensed, and what clients can expect when visiting Young & Bloom Skin.

Understanding the Difference: Medspas vs. Licensed Spas

In New York State, there is an important distinction between:

  • Medical spas (medspas) — which offer medical aesthetic services and are required to operate under physician oversight, including a medical director
  • Licensed appearance enhancement businesses — which provide non-medical skincare, massage, and wellness services within a defined scope of practice

Recent NYS enforcement efforts have focused on businesses that were offering medical procedures without the required licensing or medical supervision.

You can review the official NYS guidance here: NYS Department of State Medspa Guidance.

Where Young & Bloom Skin Fits

Young & Bloom Skin is a licensed New York State appearance enhancement business. Our services fall fully within the scope of non-medical spa care and include:

  • Licensed esthetics services (facials, skincare treatments, exfoliation, masks)
  • Licensed massage therapy
  • Wellness-focused enhancements such as LED light therapy

We do not offer medical procedures such as Botox or other injectables, prescription-based treatments, or services that require physician diagnosis or medical oversight.

Because of this, we are not required to operate under a medical director, nor do we present ourselves as a medical spa.

Our Commitment to Compliance & Transparency

We take licensing and consumer protection seriously. All services at Young & Bloom Skin are:

  • Performed by properly licensed professionals
  • Delivered within the legal scope of practice in New York State
  • Clearly described so clients know exactly what they are receiving

If you ever have questions about a service or whether something is medical vs. non-medical, we’re happy to walk through it with you.

What We Encourage Clients to Do

We agree with NYS guidance encouraging consumers to be informed. When considering aesthetic or wellness services, it’s important to:

  • Understand whether a service is medical or non-medical
  • Ask about licensing and oversight
  • Review official NYS guidance when in doubt
