We’d like to thank you all for being a part of this journey as business owners. It has been an awesome experience working with and learning from our staff and customers these past few months. A note on gift cards:
We have faced some recent challenges surrounding gift cards. In taking over the business assets earlier this year we agreed with previous ownership, out of goodwill and good business practices, to honor an agreed amount of outstanding gift card balances.
Since changing our booking software, it is apparent that there was a larger outstanding gift card balance than expected, thus more of our customers are running into challenges trying to redeem cards that were otherwise not part of this most recent migration.
As business owners we are very aware that gift cards have become a popular target for fraud due to their ease of transfer and anonymity. For the most part, this has not been the case at our spa. However, scammers often exploit the perceived value of gift cards and with the rise of online purchasing it has made it easier for stolen gift cards to be resold, transferred, or used and re-gifted, further complicating efforts to combat gift card fraud.
To date, we have already honored more than we had agreed upon and given the complexity of the issue we wanted to implement a clear policy for all customers moving forward. First, here is an important distinction when looking at the date of your card purchase:
- Any gift cards purchased on/after April 16, 2024 were purchased under our business entity [Botanicals Skin Bar LLC], are subject to NYS guidelines, are valid for nine years from the date of purchase, and do not carry any fees.
- Any gift cards purchased prior to April 16, 2024 were purchased for a different business [Saratoga Botanicals LLC]. We have no way to honor these gift cards.
